The Spearing Chronicle is dedicated to providing industry and community news to freedivers and spearos world wide. Every month we will attempt to provide a brief overview of any big news, new products, upcoming events, and anything believed to be of importance to the spearfishing community. We will also be sure to keep you posted on what is happening at XtremeSpearfishing.com as we continue to grow into the Ultimate Spearfishing Source on the Web!

Announcements
We have a few announcements to make this month. The first of which is of course the launch of this newsletter; The Spearing Chronicle. We intend on releasing The Spearing Chronicle monthly to keep you up to date with what is new at XtremeSpearfishing.com as well as what is happening throughout the freediving and spearfishing industry.
We are also excited about the second announcement: The launch of "XtremeSpearfishing.com's Official Myspace page". Do you myspace? If yes, head on over and check it out. Add us as a friend, leave a comment, and let us know what you think! We can't wait to see you there.
We would also like to officially announce the XtremeSpearfishing.com Photo Galleries. We have split the gallery up into four separate categories; Spearfishing - all general spearfishing photos, Freediving - freediving photography, Record Fish - photos of world record fish, and Competitions - photos from any spearfishing & freediving competitions. We will be adding a Vintage category soon to showcase some of the awesome historical photos that we have as well as vintage freediving and spearfishing gear photos.

New Video Tuesdays
Last month we witnessed The Thrill of a Wahoo, two time World Champion Jose' Amengual take down a 25kg (55lb) grouper off the coast of Spain, Vernon Takata skillfully using a 3-prong pole spear in Hawaii, and a perfect shot on a huge Yellofin Tuna.
As you may have noticed, XtremeSpearfishing.com releases a new video every Tuesday. You will find many more amazing videos like these on XtremeSpearfishing.com in the Videos section. The video section is always available by clicking on "Videos" in the category list in the left menu on XtremeSpearfishing.com. Be sure to checkout this month's excellent releases every Tuesday.
Industry News
2008 marks the first year the Cressi Sub Italy has brought their spearfishing line to the United States. They haven't brought the entire line, but they have brought most of it. You can take a look at their catalogue here: Cressi Fishing 2008
Gas isn't the only rising cost... the cost of lead, aluminum and other metals has gone up so drastically that the impact is being felt throughout the diving industry. The price of weight belts, diving cylinders and the like are seeing increases. What's next... water?!
New Free Immersion record set! Natalia Molchanova, from Russia, achieved a New World Record in the Free Immersion discipline at the competition in Dahab. Her Depth of 82 metres (3' 47" total dive time) surpasses the previous record of 81 metres help by Sara Campbell of the UK (2007).
Bikini Atoll Divers closes after 13 years of business. Due to the current situation of their local national airline, Air Marshalls, and the rapid rise in fuel prices, Bikini Atoll Divers had to close their diving operation - at least for now. An annual budget meeting to be held in August will decide whether they can afford to reopen next year. Business proposals or suggestions on how they could possibly save their business are welcome by the dive centre, Mr. Jack Niedenthal (Tourism Operations Manager for the Bikini Atoll Local Government) writes in his letter.
Mares (a HEAD subsidiary) is dropping the SporaSub name. As Mares expands their spearfishing line they also make one big change, the name! They are dropping the SporaSub name completely, and the entire line will now take on the Mares Instinct name. Even though the name is changing, the majority of the products will remain the same. And as you will see in the New Products section below, they are bringing out a few great new products to celebrate.

Thanks to the patented new Mares LiquidSkin technology, today the Star mask offers characteristics that were unimaginable until very recently. Thanks to simultaneous injection of two different kinds of silicone, it's no longer necessary to choose between comfort and resistance to flattening in the mask skirt. The silicone in contact with the face is 45% softer and 270% more flexible than the type generally used.
