Is Spear Fshing the real culprit for species diminishing?

Summary:

The main purpose of S.A.F.E.R. “Spear Hunting Specialty” courses.

We feel compelled to address a misconception that has been put forward to us.  Our S.A.F.E.R. courses are first and foremost dedicated to the complete knowledge of the techniques involved in free diving.  In the wide range of underwater activities of free diving there is comprised the Underwater Spear Hunting. It is not the central or unique objective of our teachings.

Much misinformation is being wrongly spread about this specialty. Our main goal when we treat this subject is to educate the students into becoming conscious, law and regulations abiding practitioners…

Are human beings more aquatic that we have ever imagined?

Summary:

Are human beings more “aquatic” than we ever imagined?
An ancestral marine reflex

In my teachings of so many years as an instructor of free diving and spear fishing I have had the opportunity to study the reactions of my students whose ages have ranged from early subjects to the most “ripe” ones .... On many occasions I have been surprised by how quickly adaptation to the aquatic environment occurred in them. It would perhaps be the result of something more than the careful education and knowledge that I was giving to them or does this remarkable adaptation in…

Somos los seres humanos mas acuaticos de lo que imaginamos?

Summary:

ROACH COACH TO ROBALO

Summary:

Knock, knock on our motel door at 3:45 AM. It must be time to go dive. I opened the door to Tim Kohl who had just done an all nighter—flying and driving—to meet us in Santiago for a dive trip.  We had the food, water, gas, ice and boats for four of us and the mother boat had already departed with all the supplies. ...  I was almost asleep when I felt the first one crawl up my arm. A minute later I felt the sharp scratchy feet of another as he crawled up my neck and paused on my mouth and checked my nose with his feelers, before I flicked him off…

BUBBLE BLOWER TO FIRST BLOOD

Summary:

The conditions were beautiful, calm, warm, clear and more important, the fish were still there.  Michelle made it look so easy as she put a shaft through the first fish. Greg watched Michelle battle the fish and finally subdue it with one hand in the gills to avoid the razor sharp teeth. Then when he saw the fish up close, and touched it, he was amazed by its size and unique beauty. Did he want to give it a try? —- If a little girl, half his age, and 98 pounds, could do it, he could not resist. The transition from Bubble Blower to First Blood was about to begin.

TEN BAGGER

Summary:

Our good fortune continued as we headed out to do some rainy season diving in the Coiba area. The change of seasons here is not usually good for many fish but since we had not dived for three months we had to get back and immerse ourselves in the liquid land of the unexpected.  On day one, rusty at shooting, we both missed the first couple of shots, but were really happy to see that the wahoo were still there, because there was not much else around, including bait. The second day we made a run to a distant island I don’t know very well, but the conditions were beautiful and clear. Hunting wahoo…
